      More Frogs of Manangatang

Posted on June 18, 2009 22:22 by Ben

Tonight I had a meeting in town and checked the Robinvale Road frogs on the way in. It was clear but dark (no moon) and the spotted marsh frogs were calling at home.

There was a regular cacophany of spotted marsh frog calls coming from the west dam on the Robinvale Road, but I couldn't hear any from the east dam. I could only hear one spadefoot call from each dam. The 'call profile' of dams around Manang has changed in the last few weeks!

I also checked the Mallee Highway stormwater (no sounds, but also pretty noisy with trucks), a runoff dam at Bolton (no sounds), and the Jones Road - Parallel Road dam where I'd heard spadefoot calls last time. No calls tonight.

It's not just the spadefoots at our place that have gone quiet lately! I think it's amazing that these frogs are all synchronised.
