      Water idea wrong

Posted on October 19, 2008 20:19 by Ben

I had great hopes that raising the water level in the pond might start the frogs there calling again (thus providing evidence for my theory that the frogs don't like to call from shallow water) but it hasn't happened. No calls for the past couple of nights. Something else is going on there.

On the tadpole front, there are signs of legs on some of the tadpoles living in the glyphosate container. It is getting difficult to find slime in the dam to feed them - which I like to think might mean that the tadpoles in the dam are eating it all but who knows.

      Shallow water

Posted on October 18, 2008 09:20 by Ben

The dam pobblebonk has stopped calling again and the pond spotted marsh frog(s?) have been quiet the last couple of nights. The water level in the pond has dropped (in the dam too) as the weather has warmed up. At the moment the pond looks like this:

If my thinking about what makes the pond frog call is correct, then after I fill the pond today we should hear calling again tonight...
