Flexible farming systems to meet the challenges of farming the southern Mallee and northern Wimmera |
 |
|
More about the Flexible Farming Systems project:
The project is funded by the
Grains Research and Development Corporation
(project BWD0008) and is run jointly by the
Birchip Cropping Group
and the
Victorian No-Till Farmers Association.
The project began in early 2006 and will finish in the first half of 2009. There
are three main outputs:
1. Describe the characteristics of key farming systems options in the target area
and understand how they can best be used outside a traditional rotation (eg. opportunity
cropping).
2. Resolve uncertainty about no-till crop establishment on heavy textured (clay)
soils with subsoil limitations in the target area.
3. Improve target area farmer skill and confidence in no-till, continuous cereal
and flexible/opportunity cropping management.
